Post Cannot connect remote desktop
by auberCy on Wednesday, May 20, 2015

Hi,I have test12.dynu.com. I used it to connect on Remote
Desktop Connection app, but it didn't work.

How can I use Dynu so that I can access my home server while I am
travelling?

What did you do exactly? It is difficult to help you without any details.

I signed up for test12.dynu.com and downloaded the Dynu IP Update Client and it runs on my home server. I guess this way test12.dynu.com will map to the IP address of my home server. Then I tried to connect to test12.dynu.com using Remote Desktop at work. But it could not connect.

You did not set up port forwarding for port 3389 in your router? Is your port 3389 open? Check it here https://www.dynu.com/NetworkTools/PortCheck.

Thanks for the hint. I went in the router and set a port forwarding rule to forward traffic coming to port 3389 to port 3389 of the internal IP address of my home server. but still I was not able to connect. PS: I also opened Windows firewall to allow remote desktop. What else could be the issue?

Well the only thing left is maybe you are running some anti-virus software or something that's still blocking the port. You might want to turn it off or at least open the port in the firewall.

YES! That solved the problem. I am using Mcafee. For Mcafee users, here is how you allow remote desktop. http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=TS100887
